The most popular are action games. This genre has many subgenres, the most famous of which include platform games, platformers, fighting games, and, of course, shooting games or shooters, which have not lost popularity since the 1990s. This genre also includes arcade games, survival games (horror, stealth), sports games (sport), simulation games, and racing games.
Platform games
This genre includes games that were developed for consoles but are now fully accessible on PCs through the use of simulators and emulators, as well as through updates and improvements by manufacturers. In these games, the gameplay usually consists of jumping and climbing, the character is able to make many jumps, and the player is able to control the character’s movements in the air. The most popular games in this genre include the well-known Super Mario Bros. game, as well as Limbo, INSIDE, and Unravel.
Shooter games
As the name implies, shooters are games with weapons, often with violent gameplay, in which the player has to shoot and hit the target. The simplest example of a shooter, without any other genres, is a shooting game in a shooting range where the player has to hit targets. In combination with other simple genres, shooters can be games that take place on the battlefield, with various combat missions. There are first-person shooter games, where the camera is displayed through the eyes of the game character, the legendary Doom being an example of the first such game. In third-person shooter games, the player’s character is visible on the screen, and the virtual camera is located behind or to the side, for example, Max Payne 3.
